How to Insulate an Attic Properly

I want to tell you some ways on how to insulate your attic. First, you need to put down some walk board and make sure that you have the necessary safety equipment. Also make sure that you wear safe clothing while doing this. Safety is a key when working!

Begin by laying insulation blankets at the outer edges and work toward the center of the attic. Make sure the vapor barrier faces downward toward the living area of the house. Strip facing from the insulation and chink between the chimney and wood framing.

Make sure to keep insulation at least three inches away from any recessed lighting fixtures. And when you are insulating walls between any unheated spaces, make sure that you push the insulation into place between the wall studs. Allow the flange on the insulation to stick out far enough so you can staple it to the framing members.

If you find that it is necessary, make baffle to keep insulation from blocking the eave vent. The insulation should cover the top plate of the wall but make sure that it does not extend into the eave space.

Remember that adding insulation to an attic is pretty easy and a great way of lowering your heating bill during the winter. And also note the loose or fiberglass bats are probably the easiest to handle for do-it-yourselfers who want to insulate their attic.

Most of the time insulation offers the best potential savings for reducing home operating costs.

Here is a nice little list to help you make sure that your home is weather tight.
