How to Make Contemporary Looking Curtains from Food Boxes

You can make the coolest Contemporary curtains using old food boxes in all kinds of sizes. If you are making these contemporary curtains for a kitchen then leave the original colors and labels on the food boxes, it will add to the ambience.

To Make A Contemporary Curtains or Contemporary Room Divider You Will Need:

Plastic plumbing pipe

Food boxes

Scissors

Paint

Plumbing flanges

Power drill

To get started you want to measure how tall and wide the inside of your windows are.

Now, you will need quit e few food boxes to make this contemporary food box curtain. Go ahead and start laying yoru food boxes in pattern. The final product will be in columns, so create a series of columns that are almost as tall as your windows and enough columns so that the final product will be as wide as your window.

Now, count how many columns you made. You will need one PVC pipe cut for each column. You will also need one plumbing flange on the end of each pipe to hold it into place eon the window.

If you have a tall window a fun option is to use a shower curtain rod or tension rod. This is a cheap option and because they are tension rods you will not need to drill flanges into the frame of yoru windows.

Now, you want to paint or wrap each food box if you do not want to see the labels. You have so many options here. You can use leftover how paint, acrylic paints, or even spray paint.

Other fun and free options are to cut up old sweaters and shirts and use them to wrap each box like a gift.

Now, once the boxes are painted and before you wrap them fabric you need to cut one hoe in the top and one hoe in the bottom of each box. These should be the size of your tension rod.

These holes need to line up vertically. Now, once the paint has dried or you cut matching holes in the fabric you can start slipping the boxes on the tension rods to create the columns. Slide the boxes on until each column or rod is filled.

Now, insert you tension rods in the window. If you are using pipes and flanges, then slip the pipes in place, pre drill the holes into the wood and screw the columns into place.

Tip: If you can collect some mini cereal boxes to make this simple contemporary window treatment, then you can create a fun contemporary window treatment and swivel the small boxes to allow more light in!
