How to Make Money Cleaning Your Home
A home contains many rooms. Homes also contain attics, basements, and many closets. All of these areas are likely stuff full of stuff. Each time we go to the store we tend to purchase the things we see that are on sale, or at a clearance price. How many of these things do we actually use though? Many of us have homes that are cluttered with things that are good and valuable, but not used. Each room and closet holds items that you just don’t need. These items take up space and make it so that used and needed items don’t have a place to call home.
The way to end clutter is to get rid of things not needed. If it’s broken or otherwise no good you throw it away. If it’s good but not used you can either give it away or sell it. The first thing to do to get your home clean and organized, and to make money doing it is to pick a room. Pick one room, any room and get your container ready. You’ll need a large container to fill with all of the stuff that is good but not needed.
Okay, so you’ve picked your room. Say it’s the living room. Go through the movies and DVD’s. Are there some films that you’ve owned for years but have not watched yet? These go in the container. What about the extra VCR or stereo you have kicking around? You replaced it years ago but still have not thrown it out? Sell it! The same goes for cassette tapes and music CD’s. If you don’t use or listen to them there is no point in keeping them. Clean out the unused to make room for the films and music you love. You’ll make money on these items and also organize your living room.
On to the kitchen. How many sets of dishes do you really need? Any old or mismatched dishes can be let go when you have a set you use regularly. What’s the point of them taking up cabinet space and collecting dust? Knick knacks and other decorative items can also be let go when they are not your style or when you have grown weary of seeing them day in and day out. Anything in good condition is sellable. That includes dinnerware such as plates, bowls, cups, glasses, silver ware, etc.
In the bedroom there are clothes. One way to end closet clutter is to get rid of some of the clothes that you have not worn in over a year. If it has not been worn in the last twelve months then there is not much point in keeping it. Clothes that children outgrow can also be removed from closets and dressers to make more space for the clothing that is used. So long as the clothes are in good condition they also can be sold. Shoes and accessories are no exception. Anything you own that is not damaged or stained can be sold.
The bathroom tends to be a room of clutter as well. Unused soaps, perfumes, makeup, towels, washcloths, shower curtains, and even jewelry often collects in the bathroom, overtaking the space that is needed for the storage of items used daily. These items can be put into the no longer needed container and then sold for some extra cash.
Closets often hold many items that are stashed and stored out of sight because they are not frequently used. Old kids games, decorations for the holidays, umbrellas, winter clothing, and other household items often end up taking up valuable closet space. When you clean all of the unused items out of the closets you’ll see that you have many things to sell, and a lot of room to store the items you use but couldn’t fit into the closet.
All this talk about selling your unused items leads us to the actual act of selling them. There are many ways to sell items that are in good condition. Anything that is not should be thrown away. DVD’s and VCR movies can be sold to video shops. They’ll buy them for about three to five dollars a piece. Electronic items can be brought to your local pawn shop. You’ll get a good amount for them. Jewelry stores often buy unwanted gold, silver and gemstone jewelry. They’ll buy it from you and make new of it, or simply resell it. Old winter clothing or winter sport items like skis or snowboards are often bought by sports shops, as are other sport items that are likely taking up room in the garage. Anything antique can be sold to an antique dealer. They are everywhere, and one is sure to be local to you. Look in the yellow pages for their number. They’ll often make house calls. Anything else can easily be sold in a yard sale, or online on a site like eBay. Another way to sell unused items is to list them in the newspaper. Your trash could be someone else’s treasure and if you don’t ask too much for your items they will sell. People are always looking for good deals! Thanks for reading and take care!
