How to Make Three Easy Homemade Home Warming Gifts
Homemade Home Warming Gift Number One: Candied Spoons Bouquet
Items that you will need:
1. Spoons
2. Hard candies
3. Oven
4. Ribbon
5. Colored plastic cling (optional)
6. Cookie sheet
Directions:
1. The first thing you will need to do is to buy your supplies for this project. To find inexpensive metal spoons look in the housewares department of a department store like Wal-mart. Here you can find generic spoons for $1 or $2 for a bunch of 4. You can select how many spoons you want in your bouquet between 4 and 12. The hard candies that you buy should reflect the tastes of the gift’s recipient. If they are diabetic, or on a diet, look for sugar free hard candies. The colored plastic wrap is optional, but it can add a color and a designer flare to your bouquet for just a few dollars.
2. Wash and dry the spoons before you apply the candies. You don’t know how many people have handled them.
3. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
4. Place spoons on a cookie sheet.
5. Place one hard candy on each spoon.
6. Heat the spoons in the oven until the candies have melted. 5 to 10 minutes. Be sure to watch so that the candies don’t over-melt and slide off the spoons. Slightly under melted is preferable to overmelted. If you want just wait until the candies have softened and then press onto the spoon.
7. Remove from the over and allow to cool.
8. After the spoons have cooled wrap in colored plastic wrap and tie with a ribbon bow.
9. Arrange spoon bouquet and tie with another ribbon bow.
Homemade Home Warming Gift Number Two: Personalized Coasters
Items that you will need:
1. Pictures, wrapping paper, cut-outs, etc. that reflect the personality of the gift’s recipient.
2. Cork, stone, or wood pieces that are suitable size and shape for a coaster.
3. Decoupage paste or gel.
4. Applicator.
5. Scissors.
6. Ribbon.
Directions:
1. First you will need to find pictures, graphics, stickers, etc. that reflect the personality of the gift’s recipient. For example a picture of the homeowners together, a picture of their pets, or a cut-out of a favorite car.
2. Prepare the blank coaster according to the directions on the decoupage product container.
3. Apply one coat of decoupage to the blank coaster to act as glue, then apply the pictures that you have selected for each coaster.
4. Apply a sealing coat of decoupage gel over the entire coaster to seal it, and protect it from water damage.
5. Allow to dry overnight.
6. Stack the coasters and tie them together with a decorative ribbon.
Homemade Home Warming Gift Number Three: Homemade Scented Candles
Items that you will need:
1. Candle Wax.
2. Scented Oils.
3. Candle Mold.
4. Ribbon.
5. Dried flowers (optional).
6. Wick
7. Dowel.
Directions:
1. You will be able to find all of the materials for this project at a craft shop. Choose colors and scents that reflect the likes and dislikes of the gift’s recipient. When choosing a candle mold you can buy a premade mold, you can use an empty milk carton, or you can use an empty glass container or bottle.
2. Prepare the mold by tying the wick to the center of a dowel and placing it over the mold so that the wick dangles from the dowel into the mold. The wick should touch the bottom of the mold.
3. Melt the wax following the directions on the product.
4. Pour the wax, or candle gel, into the mold up to the top of the mold.
5. If you want to add dried flowers or other inserts into your candle wait for a few minutes until the wax or gel has cooled slightly, and then insert the items using a stick, tweezers, or other poking device.
6. Allow your candle to sit undisturbed until it sets and cools.
7. Tie a ribbon around it.
