How to Make Your Own Granola

Granola is a popular snack, breakfast choice, and great source of healthful nutrition when you’re on the go. Make your own natural granola at home with this easy recipe, and you’ll always have something on hand when those hunger pangs strike! Use organic ingredients when possible for maximum flavor and store in an airtight container or bag for up to two weeks. This recipe makes almost 2.5 lbs.

Ingredients

Dry Mix:

6 cups old fashioned oats (not instant!)
1 �¾ cups sliced almonds
�½ cup dark brown sugar
�¾ cup shredded coconut
1 cup sunflower seeds
�¼ cup white flour

1/4/ tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground cinnamon

Syrup (to add):

�½ cup organic maple syrup
�½ cup dark brown sugar
2/3 cup vegetable oil
�½ tsp. salt
�¼ cup organic honey
�¼ cup vanilla extract

Method

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Cover four 11×17 pans with wax paper and set aside. Combine all dry ingredients well, mixing with a wooden spoon and set aside. In a medium saucepan, combine all syrup ingredients and simmer for 5-8 minutes. Remove from heat and mix into dry ingredients; incorporate well. Spread total mixture on sheet pans, and bake for 16-20 minutes until lightly brown. Let the granola cool completely before bagging or adding variations, and enjoy!

Variations
Add 2 cups of the following after completion: organic dark chocolate chips, California raisins, dried cranberries, any other dried fruit of your choice, cereal of your choice (e.g. Cheerios, Chex) , or banana chips for a treat!
