How to Make a Cemetery Decoration Rock Piece

Many cemetery decorations come up in early May through June. Decoration day is always special to my family. Placing flowers upon graves it often all that we can do for our departed loved ones. Artificial flowers pieces can be very tacky and expensive. I choose to make my own. This way, I save money and make the task more meaningful. I choose a design that more fits my family member’s likes and personality. Making a cemetery rock centerpiece is not difficult. With a little time and practice you can be making a beautiful, meaningful gift for you loved one. Many of the supplies can be purchased at craft stores or florists.

Materials
Artifical Flowers
Cloth Leafy Filler
Wire cutters
Floral styro foam
Floral tape
Floral picks
Rock piece saddle
Floral wire

Choose your flowers. Be certain to choose flowers that have different levels of height. You want to add life to your piece by adding tall flowers and short flowers. Adding long narrow flowers will create a beautiful airy look. Grasses also make a rock piece very attractive.

Begin by cutting each flower from the bunch. Be certain to leave the stem as long as possible.

Some flowers may need to be wrapped on a floral pick. Check for flowers with very short stems or splitting t the ends. Hold the flower stem and pick together and wrap them using the flower tape.

Cut the styro foam to the desired length depending on how big your rock piece is. Use the wire to secure the styro foam to the rock piece saddle.

Begin by sticking flowers in each end of the styro foam. Using the same type of flowers on each end with give your piece a more balanced look.

After the ends have been completed, I work on the middle of the piece. Make sure that you place several flowers in the very center that point down. The edges of the rock piece should hide the saddle when it is placed on the rock. Again, use the same number and type of flowers on both sides.

Begin adding flowers to other areas of the foam. The top should have longer flowers and the sides the shorter flowers.

After the piece is complete check for any bare places. I prefer to use the cloth type leafy green (verses the plastic) as a filler.

If adding vase bouquets, I once again cut the flowers from the bunch. When arranging these pieces, I prefer going to the cemetery and creating them in the vase.
