How to Make a House a Home Within the First Week
Straighten Out Bedrooms
After weeks, or possibly even months, of planning for move day you will be in need of some rest and recuperation. One of the first things you should do after you move in is to straighten out your bedroom. Movers will usually assemble beds for householders, which will mean you can sleep soundly in your own bed soon after you arrive. Unpack boxes in each bedroom, sort bed linen right away and remove boxes from bedrooms.
These simple steps can help turn bedrooms into the haven that they are intended, rather than clutter collecting rooms that you cannot even walk through without stumbling.
Tidy the Kitchen!
Next to the bedroom, the kitchen is the next most important room you should concentrate your attention on once you move. Unpack pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, herbs, spices, cookery books and all else that belongs in the kitchen. This will make it easier to settle into an easy cooking routine and cleaning up after each meal will be a breeze.
It is frustrating trying to whip up a family meal when you cannot locate your pots and pans and your spice rack has gone AWOL.
Put Up Curtains
Curtains can make all the difference when you move into a new home. Before you move out, make sure all of your curtains (including net curtains) and hardware are packed together in the same box so you do not have to hunt high and low for them once you move. Then make sure you label all hardware for easy assembly after you move in.
After each move, I always feel much more at home once I have curtains up. Not only do curtains afford you the privacy of knowing others are not able to look into your home, but you can also place your own personal “stamp” on your new home with curtains.
It takes time and energy to turn a new house into a home. But by taking the time to concentrate on a few key rooms, such as bedrooms and the kitchen, your house will soon feel more like home. Putting up curtains also helps enhance your new home.
