How to Make a Picture Frame Plant Stand

If you love photos and you love plants you’ll really enjoy making this picture frame plant stand. And, even if plants aren’t your thing, you can still make the stand and use it in the bathroom to hold toiletries or beside your bed as a night stand. The plant stand is very easy to make using just picture frames and glue.

The best picture frames for this project are the wooden kind or lightweight plastic, at least a half-inch deep. The best size of frame to use is the 8″x10″ frames, turned to where the width is 10″. Align the picture frames on a table, one above the other. Make the stand as short or tall as you want but a good size would be four or five frames high.

You’ll make four panels, each consisting of the same amount of frames. You’ll also need one extra frame to make the top of the stand. Go ahead and insert the photos in the frames before assembling the plant stand. You can use other things besides photos, such as printed cloth, poetry, or drawings from your children. If you use the deep frames, used for making shadow boxes, you can put things in the frames such as starfish, awards or medals, and other small collectibles.

When the picture frames are aligned glue them together with wood glue for wooden frames or super glue for plastic frames. Allow plenty of time for the glue to dry. To assemble the four sides glue one entire panel to the second one, positioning them in an “L” shape. Add the third panel on, making an squared “U” shape. Glue the fourth panel on which will make a tall box shape.

Set the stand on the floor and place glue onto the back of the last frame, which will be the top of the stand. Position the frame on the top making sure the glue reaches all four top edges of the frame panels. Other things you can use for the top are a cutting board, a piece of wood, or even a mirror.

The plant stand can also serve as a secret hiding place. Set the stand on an 11″x14″ frame or just on the floor. Place valuables onto the larger frame and set the stand over the top of them, or just put valuables in a cardboard box and position the plant stand over it.

Make mini versions of the plant holder, to go behind the kitchen sink or on a mantle, by using 3″x4″ frames or smaller. Make even taller ones that can hold a lamp or stack of books. The picture frame stands are so easy to make, and so unique, you’ll want to make more and more.
