I began making pinecone owl refrigerator magnets many years ago when I sold handmade items at craft shows. This was one of my biggest sellers, and since they were very easy to make and took very little time, they were also one of my biggest moneymakers. Whether you’re looking for craft projects that are sure to be big sellers, or whether you want to make refrigerator magnets for gifts or for yourself, you’ll love the way these pinecone owl refrigerator magnets turn out. Best of all, they’re a lot of fun to make!

Necessary Supplies

To make this simple craft project you’ll need a scallop shell, a pinecone, plastic craft eyes, yellow or gold craft paint, a small paintbrush, a hot glue gun, cardboard or cardstock, scissors, and a pencil. You’ll also need a magnet for the back. Choose a sturdy peel and stick magnet or a magnet that requires glue. A roll of magnets are handy, but I’ve found that this type doesn’t adhere as well as sturdier flat magnets.

Procedure

Begin by tracing the scallop shell on a piece of cardboard or cardstock, and cut out the shape. Carefully coat the edge of the shell with hot glue, and attach the cardboard. While the glue is drying, remove the branches from the pinecone. Choose the most appropriate sizes to cover the entire shell in a horizontal fashion, and fill in open spaces as necessary.

Next, choose a triangular shaped piece for the beak, and two more for the ears. Paint the nose with gold or yellow latex craft paint, and once it’s dry, glue it in the appropriate spot on the pinecone covered shell. Attach the ears to the top of the pinecone with hot glue. Lastly, glue on the plastic eyes, and attach the magnet to the back of the pinecone owl.

Creative Uses

This pinecone owl refrigerator magnet is good for more than just posting notes on a refrigerator. They make fantastic gifts for teachers, and they can be attached to filing cabinets, metals doors, and any other location that can be decorated with magnets. They can be attached to wrapped gifts, and are perfect for every occasion. You’re sure to become addicted to making these adorable pinecone owl magnets!
