How to Make a Weather Resistant Pillow for Your Lawn Furniture
This simple Weather Resistant Pillow is the perfect hostess gift for anyone who loves to grill out and have people over. Outdoor pillows can be so expensive, so try sewing these pillow covers to update existing pillows or cover bargain finds from yard sales.
Don’t think you have to sew to make these Weather Resistant Pillows. You can use no sew and self adhering Velcro if the idea of the sewing machine scares you.
To make this easy Weather Resistant Pillow craft project you will need:
1 Vinyl tablecloth
Self adhering Velcro
Scissors
No Sew
Fabric puff paint (optional)
Fabric paint (optional)
Pillow insert (sewn in plastic waterproof material)
To start your Weather Resistant Pillow you will need to decide what size pillow insert you are going to use. You can buy new water proof pillow inserts or simply recover an existing pillow with plastic waterproof material.
Now, to make the basic pillow form I am using vinyl tablecloth material. You could also use a indoor outdoor tablecloth for this Weather Resistant pillow.
Lay your vinyl tablecloth fabric on a flat large surface; a dining room table or kitchen counter works well.
Trace out your pillow insert shape on the fabric. Leave at least 2 inches around the shape of your pillow.
You will need two pieces of this Weather Resistant fabric. Leave one piece of fabric whole. Cut the other in half exactly. If your pillow is square this will be simple. If your pillow is rectangle, cut your 2nd piece in half horizontally equidistant from top to bottom.
To assemble the Weather Resistant pillow lay your front bathrobe panel face up. Outline the edge with no sew or fabric glue. Lay you back panels on top of the front panel. If you are using fabric glue, press the panels together and let this dry. If you are using No Sew then you are ready to iron the Weather Resistant pillow cover together.
Turn your Weather Resistant pillow inside out once it has dried or your No Sew has cooled off. You can easily insert your waterproof pillow through the center opening in the back.
Always wash your Weather Resistant fabric before making anything out of it. This will allow your fabric to go ahead and shrink before your cut it out. While all fabric won’t shrink. Some will; so don’t risk it.
Now, if you need to add any ties to the Weather Resistant pillow to keep them in place on your lawn furniture do this before you assemble the pillow cover. Just cut out two long ties. Fold the ties in half and sew them in the 2 back corners while you are sewing the pieces of the pillow together.
