How to Make an Inexpensive Toilet Paper Holder

Toilet paper can be one of those hard to place items in a tiny house or apartment. Sure it is cheaper to buy the bigger pack but where do you put twelve rolls of toilet paper without much cabinet space? Okay so they sell those toilet paper holder things, but if you are living in a tiny apartment or house chances are the extra money isn’t exactly flowing out of your pockets. To make a cheap toilet paper holder that is sure to make you impressed at yourself and at the very least hold your toilet paper out of sight (this one hangs from the ceiling!).

What you have to spend (prices may vary):

Dowel rod ~ 60 cents

Wooden craft circle ~ 50 cents

Mug hooks (2) ~ 1 dollar (for a box of them)

A screw ~ probably nothing but if you have to by one ~ 10 cents

Optional: craft paint ~ 80 cents

So you are looking at less than 5 bucks for sure, even less if you have some of this stuff on hand, certainly what you will save buying the bigger package of toilet paper. The process for making this toilet paper holder is really easy. First things first, lay out all your materials: there is an old bakers mantra… everything in its place follow it or not just get your stuff together. If you want your toilet paper holder painted, now is the time, paint the craft circle and the dowel rod separately. After everything is dry it is time to assemble the toilet paper holder. Life will be easier if you drill a hole (appropriately sized for the screw) through the middle of the craft circle and into the end of your dowel rod. Regardless, screw the screw through the middle of the craft circle and into the middle of the end of the dowel rod. Flip the dowel rod over and screw the mug hook into the other end.

Now locate the place that is the least conspicuous for a hanging toilet paper holder. Mine is in the corner behind the bathroom door. Screw the other mug hook into the ceiling where the toilet paper holder will hang. Whew… hard work is over 😉 Load up the toilet paper holder with… well toilet paper (it holds 8 rolls) and hook the mug hooks together.
