How to Write a Fraternity Song

Almost every fraternity and every pledge class has to write a fraternity song. What is a fraternity song you might ask? A fraternity song is the motto or song that each pledge class writes which in some one represents the pledge class of members and group of people. The pledge song has to be different for every single pledge class that pledges every semester. The pledge song name should have the fraternity name in it as well. For example if the fraternity name is Alpha Sigma, then the song title could be “Alpha Sigma Bell” modeled after the song “Jingle Bells.”

In the fraternity song there are several key elements that must be included. The first is that the song must include the name of every single person in your pledge class. The song tune should be very similar to the real song. Using the same example of the song “Jingle Bells” the fraternity song should therefore be to the tune of “Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the WayâÂ?¦” The song should also be related to events that the pledge class has gone through the year, both the good and the bad. The song most of all should reflect all of the bonding times shared with your pledge class and what the experience was like for the entire semester.

The process of writing a fraternity song is not something that should be done by one person. Rather it should be written by every person in the pledge class and everyone should add in a line or saying that reflects something about themselves that was memorable during pledging or something memorable about another member of the pledge class. In the song you also might want to include the nicknames of the people in your pledge class. The nicknames of the people in the pledge class are given to everyone by the pledge master and assistant pledge masters. They aren’t supposed to be something that is taken serious. Instead it should be something that reflects something silly or funny that a person said or an action or event that was memorable about that person. For example, my friend’s nickname for the fraternity was “Depends” because he always had to go to the bathroom. Another person’s nickname I knew of was “Monotone” because his voice was in a monotone pitch in everything he said.

Another important aspect of the song is that it is has a catchy chorus. The chorus will most likely be the main part of the song that when you look back on you will probably remember. One of my favorite chorus’ went something like this, “Until the day I crossâÂ?¦ I’ll be on call with you.” It was such a catchy tune that pretty soon every time that song came on the radio, instead of singing the real song’s lyrics, we sang the lyrics from our pledge song.

The song if you join a fraternity will be such a great bonding experience and such a fun experience. Good luck and enjoy!
