Hyatt Regency Inner Harbor in Baltimore Review

Just a warning to anyone thinking of staying at the Hyatt Regency Inner Harbor in Baltimore….the four-star hotel is currently undergoing renovations which could affect your stay. During my recent stay at this hotel, located right on the beautiful harbor in Baltimore, I came across a few problems as a result of ongoing construction to upgrade the hotel.

I noticed after booking AND after checking in that there was a large bulletin on my floor explaining that there might be some construction noise during my stay. This was an understatement. I was awakened on Monday and Tuesday by pounding and drilling so loud that I was sure they were actually IN the room with me. There were voices, hammering, drills, and pounding starting from 8:00am. I understand that the bulletin had informed me of this, but in all honesty I would NEVER have booked at a hotel that had a mandatory 8:00am wake up call.

Furthermore, on Monday our room had no plumbing. No toilet, no sink, no shower. I had to be somewhere for a very important appointment, and was not able to even bathe or brush my teeth. It was humiliating to say the least. The bulletin explaining about the construction said you were sorry for the inconvenience. Having no plumbing in a four-star hotel is not inconvenient, it’s unacceptable.

On a more positive note, the accomodations were beautiful (and apparently will be even more so in the future.) We had a harborview room that was really impressive, and the view was really beautiful. The bell staff was helpful, the front desk staff was accommodating, and the housekeeping staff was thorough. Best of all, after a heavily worded letter to the hotel manager, and a request for a partial refund due to the problems I had during my stay, I was given a great apology, an upgrade for a future stay, and my requested refund.

Hyatt Regency hotels and resorts are four-star accommodations that live up to their Hyatt name, however, if you are planning a stay in the Inner Harbor, I recommend calling ahead and inquiring about the status of the renovations.
