Ideas for Setting Up a Laundry Room
I had a large laundry room in my last house, and setting it up was as enjoyable as furnishing and decorating the rest of the home. Instead of mindlessly lining the walls with appliances and clothes baskets, I took the opportunity to transform the space into a spectacular laundry room. It had the following decor, furnishings and more.
Paint the Laundry Room a Sunny Hue
A laundry room should not be dismal. After all, washing and drying laundry is not enjoyable, even if you have the latest and greatest appliances. When setting up a laundry room, make it sunny. Bathe the walls with a hue from the warm side of the color wheel. It does not have to be bright yellow or shocking orange. Select buttery gold or soft tangerine for a laundry room that will make even the darkest day seem brighter, even when dirty clothes are spilling out of the hampers.
Consider Setting up a Wall Mounted Drying Rack
Not all clothes can be tumble dried. Some should be dried flat, but when space is not available, a drying rack is the next best option. It will save energy and a considerable amount of money. When setting up a laundry room, consider installing a wall mounted drying rack that folds up when not in use. For efficiency, install the rack over a heat vent. I installed a wall mounted drying rack over a gas forced furnace vent next to my dryer, and it worked incredibly well. I used it to dry many of my clothes, even items that did not have to be dried flat or on a line.
Place a Folding Table in the Center of the Room
Tossing laundry into the washer and transferring it into the dryer is easy, but folding can be a time consuming and arduous chore. Setting up a table for folding can make the task quicker and easier. If space allows, place a table in the center of the laundry room. If the room does not provide enough square footage, consider setting up a table next to the wall and as close to the dryer as possible.
Hang a Decorative Sign
Setting up a laundry room involves more than finding a place for everything necessary to wash and dry fabrics. To make it as stylish as the rest of the home it should include eye catching decor. Select wall hangings according to the style of the space. I chose vintage metal signs for my laundry room. It was the ideal place to use them. They added a touch of nostalgia and whimsy to a part of the home where I would spend countless hours washing, drying and folding everything from clothing to towels, and they looked terrific.
