Ideas for Unique and Custom Coffee Tables

Creating a unique and custom coffee table is a great way to add a designer touch to your existing d©cor. Unique custom coffee tables give you a chance to show your individual style and personality. Creating you own custom coffee table can save a lot of money. If you are sick of the same of same old coffee tables sold at every major furniture chain store here a few ideas for creating you won unique and custom coffee table.

One of the most unique and custom coffee table ideas I have ever seen is a coffee table made out of a large piece of driftwood. A couple I know in Florida found it on one their daily walks on the beach. They were so inspired that knew they had to do something with this unusual piece of wood. After a little minor sanding they were able to make the driftwood stand perfectly flat and stable on the ground. They laid a nice thick piece of beveled glass they had custom cut for them on top To keep the glass form sliding off of their custom coffee table they use little clear rubber stoppers that they bought form the same company that cut their glass. Fortunately the driftwood was the perfect height for a custom coffee table. While you may not luck onto a piece of driftwood the perfect size, you should keep you eye out for unusual finds in nature to create a truly unique coffee table. The addition of a thick piece of glass can transform nature into a great conversation starter in front of your couch.

Another custom and unique coffee table idea is to take an old antique door and attach some thick and interesting legs to it. Make sure you measure an existing coffee table to get an appropriate height. Be sure to leave the handles and other hardware attach© and working. You can find great legs at home improvement stores, flea markets, salvage yards and other sources that sell new and use architectural elements. For added interest try attaching oversized castors to the legs of your custom coffee table. It adds an industrial touch and allows you to move your coffee table about the room.

Different sized wooden trunks also make a great custom coffee table. We have all be in someone’s home and they had a fabulous old trunk for a coffee table. Why not take this idea one step further and use an odd number of trunks, each varying heights colors, and textures to create a multilevel custom coffee table in front of your couch. Thre is a great number.

Old wood coke crates can also make a great custom coffee table. I recommend making three stacks of at least four crates, five might really be better. Line the three stacks up in front of your couch and lay a nice piece of beveled glass on top. Be sure to purchase a nice thick piece of beveled glass. Substantial glass will lend an air of quality.

Another great idea for a custom coffee table is to make stacks of large oversized books in front of your coffee table. Local library books sales, yard sale, and estate sales are all great places to find used books. Focus more on the color and size of the books than the actually content. Try to keep the most colorful or interesting ones for the top layer. Now pull out that heavy piece of beveled glass again and your books are framed and protected and you have a custom coffee table that will make you look like a genius.

For a final custom coffee table idea try taking an existing dinging table and cutting the legs down to coffee table height. Unique, custom, and you can be sure no one else will have a coffee table like yours.
