Interesting Uses for Aluminum Foil

Over the years I’ve found many uses for aluminum foil. It’s not just for the kitchen. Use aluminum foil in many surprising ways. When you’re done recycle it!

Aluminum foil makes fabulous Halloween Costumes. Use it to wrap up like a tin man, Make play swords and shields, fairy princess wands, strange face conforming masks and fake jewelry.

When putting highlights in your hair, use aluminum foil to wrap the highlighted pieces until you are ready to rinse. This keeps the solution off the rest of your hair.

Sharpen your scissors. A friend of mine at work in a fabric shop learned that if she cut aluminum foil with scissors it would sharpen them.

Wrap gifts with foil. Single parenting means using on hand items for birthdays. My kids and grand-kids have often received aluminum foil wrapped gifts.

Use aluminum foil to line the oven. This makes cleaning easier. Line the area under stove burners or cover burner pans with it as well.

Put a piece of aluminum foil under items being ironed. Irons both sides at once for a smoother finish.

Use aluminum foil to cook outdoors. Use as a grill cover to avoid tiring clean up. Wrap items like potatoes and corn before grilling to keep from charring.

Wrap grill items in aluminum foil. Poke a couple holes in the foil to let hickory in and grease out. Dig a grill pit in the sand at the beach. Fill with wood and hickory chips. Set afire.Toss wrapped items on fire.

Use aluminum foil to chase birds away from fruit trees. Hang strips from the trees. The noise and reflections will keep them away.

Cover the edge of pie crusts with aluminum foil to keep them from burning.

Wrap aluminum foil around a piece of foam board or cardboard. Use in place of a fancy plate for a large cake that won’t fit on normal size platters.

Aluminum foil makes a great solar cooker on a hot day. Just wrap items to be cooked and place in the hot sun. This takes a while but works great when the grill gets left at home.

A piece of wadded aluminum foil will clean rusty tools. Just wet with water and rub. Takes a little elbow grease but tools are expensive.

Make a candle mold in an interesting shape using aluminum foil. Spray the mold with vegetable oil spray. Place a wick and wick holder in the center. Pour in the candle wax. Let set, then remove the mold by peeling.
