Is a Boxer Dog the Breed for You?
A properly raised and socialized Boxer will usually get along with other dogs and household pets. An important thing to remember about a Boxer, though, is that he needs to be a part of your family-Boxer dogs do not like being left to sleep in a garage or doghouse, separated from everyone else.
Boxers enjoy a good romp, and regular exercise should be part of their daily routine. If you can’t devote at least an hour every day to exercising with your dog, then a Boxer is probably not the best breed for you. Although a Boxer demands much attention and care, if you are willing to give a little, this wonderful breed will be worth it in the long run.
Adding a boxer puppy to your family
If you’ve already decided the boxer is definitely the dog for you, and you’ve moved on to looking for a boxer puppy for sale, you can find one several ways. You can scout your local newspaper’s classified ads by private owners, or find a reputable breeder in your area by asking friends or veterinarians for a referral. You might also be able to find the perfect boxer puppy for sale online by searching private party ads and websites devoted to placing dogs in loving homes.
If you don’t find what you’re looking for right away and are anxious to adopt, consider posting your own Boxer puppy want ad, so the sellers can then find you!
Choosing a Boxer puppy
If there’s more than one Boxer puppy for sale to pick from, look for one that is curious, alert, playful and fearless. Select one who shows that he’s interested in making friends, but isn’t so exuberant that he’s out of control.
The pup’s head should be in proportion to his body, lean and unwrinkled. The Boxer puppy’s body should be compact and square, with his tail carried high. The Boxer puppy’s shiny, close-fitting coat can be fawn, brindle, white or various shades of red.
How much is that doggy in the window?
When looking for a Boxer puppy for sale, the price you’ll pay will depend upon the area where you live, supply and demand, quality, and the breeder. Currently, you can expect to pay between (approximately) $700 and $1,000 for a Boxer puppy.
If you have your heart set on getting a Boxer dog but don’t have that much money, you should periodically check your local animal shelter. You probably won’t find a puppy, but there’s always a chance an adult Boxer was owner-surrendered and is looking for a new home. Alternately, you should see if there are any Boxer Rescue groups in your state. These nonprofit organizations don’t “sell” rescued dogs but instead work on placing them in good homes, typically for a small donation to cover their costs.
The Boxer is a real “people” dog. His loyal affection and intelligence make him a fine companion, and will likely make you a devoted Boxer fan for life! Once you get your new Boxer dog situated with all of the essentials he’ll need, it’s easy (not to mention fun) to show the world how much you love the breed-Ebay and many other online sites have Boxer tees, charms, figurines, plates, and other adorable items.
Beware the “Boxer Puppy For Sale” scams
When responding to an ad, either in your local paper or online, it’s wise to remember the old saying, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” Unfortunately, there are criminally-minded people who are always looking for an easy mark to swindle, so arm yourself with knowledge so you won’t be one of them.
The most important thing you can do to protect yourself from scammers is to get as much information as you can about the breeder or private owner of a boxer puppy for sale. Never give out your bank information without first making sure the seller is legitimate and you feel comfortable buying from them. Be wary of individuals who pressure you to quickly make a decision about buying their boxer puppy, or try to speed up your transaction once you’ve agreed to take their puppy.
Good luck finding the perfect puppy!
