Keeping Your Bathroom Clean – Don’t Wait For it to Get Dirty

The biggest secret in keeping a home clean is, don’t wait on it to get dirty. This may seem like too little advice a little too late, but one through cleaning can get you up to speed. Start with the bathroom and a thirty minute intense cleaning. Then, you are ready to keep it clean.

Once you have a clean bathroom, follow these simple steps to keep it that way.

Keep cleaning supplies handy

A few rags, a spray bottle with vinegar, water and a teaspoon of baking soda, a toilet brush, can of Bon Ami cleaner and some coffee filters should be kept together in a spot accessible to the bathroom. If these items are available you are more likely to use them.

Make it a part of the routine

Everyone goes to the bathroom everyday, so getting your self into the room and having the cleaning supplies there is the simple first steps. Now, consider whether you will make this 30 second daily wipe down a part of your morning stop or evening stop in the bathroom. (If you live by yourself, every other day might be adequate. But do not space it out more than that). Remember, you are not waiting on it to get dirty. Each day, at your selected time, either morning or evening, pull out your supplies and do a thirty second wipe down.

Order Matters

The order matters in the 30 second wipe down, because you want to keep everything clean and be most efficient. Spray the mirror (even if it’s not dirty) with one mist from the bottle and wipe it down with one or two coffee filters. They are lint free and a great option for cleaning glass and mirrors. Toss them in the trash. Sprinkle a little Bon Ami cleaner in the toilet and let it sit while you spray the sink and counter and wipe it with a rag. Mist the outside of the toilet and wipe from the top down to the base. Toss the rag aside and grab the toilet brush. Give the inside of the bowl a spin and a flush. Stick your supplies back in the bucket or cabinet and be on your way.

Shower and Tub

Prior to getting in the shower, mist it with your vinegar solution. Toss one of your bathroom rags in too. Let it sit while you undress then turn the shower on and get it. Use the rag to wipe down the walls, shelves and faucet, and then drop it on the floor. While you shower, use your feet to move the rag around and clean the floor. Be careful not to slip; don’t try to do more than you’re capable of. After the shower, toss the rag in the laundry.

Staying on top of the grime in a bathroom can make it one of the easiest rooms to keep clean.
