The element of surprise is important in home decorating. If you would like to create a uniquely decorated kid’s room, hang interesting objects other than traditional pictures and prints on the walls. Here are some ideas.

Decorate with Children’s Games
Game boards make interesting wall dÃ?©cor for kids’ rooms. Purchase children’s games inexpensively at garage sales and thrift stores. Look for colorful boards with striking graphics geared to the age of your child. Hang a few special game boards on the walls of your child’s room or cover a whole wall with a mixture of all kinds of games.

Decorate with Children’s Playing Cards
Another idea for decorating the walls of kids’ rooms is with children’s playing cards. You can make unusual collages by overlapping the edges of the kids’ game cards to form a picture of whatever size you want. Look for oversized card decks that can be mixed with smaller cards to add variety. Buy children’s card games cheaply at thrift stores and garage sales. Dust jackets on children’s books are usually colorful with great graphics. If you can find books in very poor condition with the dust jackets still intact, use the jackets. Garage sales are probably the best place to find these discards and will be priced very low or even offered for free. A collage made of jacket parts would be interesting and decorative as well as a grouping of individually framed jackets.

Sometimes discarded or poor condition books still have a few illustration pages in good shape. If the book is in very poor condition overall, consider removing special pictures to use for your decorating.

Decorate with Old Sheet Music
A final idea for decorating the walls of your kids’ rooms is sheet music with juvenile themes. Older vintage sheet music can often be purchased very inexpensively from local thrift stores. Sheet music covers with children’s graphics really complements a room that includes other musical decorating elements.
