Kitchen Uses for Vinegar

There are unlimited places and ways to use vinegar. Vinegar can clean, sanitize, deodorize, shine, preserve and renew just about anything it touches. It does all this by itself, without using any strong or harmful chemicals. Here’s just a few of the things I’ve used vinegar for in the past and present.

Uses for vinegar:

*Shine up your brass, copper and pewter with a mixture of 1 cup vinegar and 1 teaspoon of salt. This will also remove coffee and tea stains from cups.

*Add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to the water when you boil eggs to keep them from cracking.

*Remove soap build up from the dishwasher by running a cup of vinegar through the cycle once a month. This trick also works to clean mineral deposits from coffee makers.

*Vinegar makes a great marinade. It has the added benefit of killing any bacteria present. Use ¼ cup for every 2-3 pounds of meat.

*Remove stains form pots and pans by boiling a solution of 3 tablespoons vinegar to 1 pint of water in the pot until the stain is removed.

*Boil ¼ cup vinegar and 1 cup water in a dish in the microwave to loosen baked on food.

*Fish scales will come off more easily if rubbed with vinegar first.

*Vinegar will remove fruit stains and onion odors from hands.

*Vinegar will remove hard water stains and mineral build up from most surfaces.

*Use a small amount of vinegar in the water when washing garden vegetables to remove bugs and dirt more easily.

*Shine up glass, linoleum and Formica counter tops by adding a little vinegar to water and using it to clean with.

*Vinegar acts as a deodorizer and disinfectant on surfaces and in containers. Just mix a few teaspoons in some water and wipe down or use as a rinse. It can also be used to deodorize a garbage disposal.

*Vinegar and baking soda can be used together as a drain cleaner. Pour a handful of baking soda down the drain and follow with1/2 cup of vinegar. Let it sit for a few minutes and flush with hot tap water.

*Vinegar is a grease cutting agent as well. Use it in the oven, on the stove, and in dishwater.

*Rice comes out fluffier by adding a teaspoon of vinegar to the cooking water.
