Let Manning Rest Up: Start Osweiler

Fact: The Kansas City Chiefs have been the luckiest team in the NFL when it comes to playing backup quarterbacks. It seems like every week they are playing against someone’s second string guy or what I like to call the little sisters of the poor. This is the reason why the Denver Broncos should keep that train rolling and start Brock Osweiler in place of the hurting Peyton Manning.

There is no denying that Peyton Manning looked like a 50 year old man when limping off the field after the Broncos Sunday afternoon win in beautiful San Diego. The aches and pains of the long NFL season are starting to show on every teams roster, but Peyton looks like that ankle might be bothering him more than he is willing to show. With the hardest part of Denver’s schedule coming up, the last thing they need to have happen is to lose their star quarterback the way the Packers did. The Broncos will play the Chiefs two times in the next three weeks and then more than likely again in the playoffs.

Even though the Chiefs own the best record in the NFL, it’s hard to believe they are better than the Broncos who have scored less than 30 points only one time this season in a win at San Diego. The time to see what second year player who is a beastly 6′ 8”has in his talent bag. This is also a good time to see if the Broncos can beat a great team without feeling like Peyton did everything. If the Osweiler lead Broncos were able to beat KC it would give other players a boost of confidence; especially the defense that has taken a lot of criticism for giving up too many passing yards. Starting Osweiler could also be a pivotal move for Jack Del Rio, who is trying to clean up his resume before testing the open market as a head coach after the season is over. The last reason why the Broncos should start Brock is because believe it or not Peyton is not going to quarterback Denver forever. He is starting to get Brett Favre old and who knows; if the Broncos win the Super Bowl, how much longer he will QB before retiring? At some point Denver is going to have to see if Osweiler is the QB of the future or if they need to start taking a look at the 2014 draft class which happens to be filled with deep talent at the Quarterback position.
