Life Would Be Difficult Without My Rand McNally Road Atlas

My Road Atlas and I go way back. It has helped me out on numerous road trips. I buy my Road Atlas to use as a reference while planning travels. It has many other features besides maps, too. I would like to discuss my road atlas’ features in this article. Then, one will understand why life would be difficult without my Rand McNally Road Atlas.

Besides having maps of individual states, there is a section containing maps of the main cities. There also are maps of Canada and Mexico. Maps, maps, and more maps. Woohoo!! I love my road atlas!

First of all, what I like best about my Road Atlas is the fact that it is easy to read. There is ample room on all the pages. Nothing is so small one needs a magnifying glass to read it. The font is clear and eye-friendly. There are pictures throughout the sections that do not contain maps. This is but one reason life would be difficult without my Rand McNally Road Atlas.

Upon opening my road atlas, it starts with a section of the current year’s events and tourist information. This section is broken down per state. This section only lists an event or two per state. There is a wealth of contact information available here as far as Tourism Centers go. And, it is all located on a few pages. How nice and convenient. All the information is very easy to read – as mentioned above. There is ample room between listings. Even Canada events and tourist information are included.

My road atlas also has a section on public golf courses broken down per state. Here, there is information on websites, course information, yardage, pars, etc. This comes in very handy when I visiting another state. This is but another reason I love my road atlas.

I really like the section on safety in my road atlas. Besides having various traveling safety tips, there is a blank telephone book sheet for my traveling information. Information such as insurance policy number, emergency contact, medical instructions, etc are included here. All this information in one place is very convenient and time saving. My road atlas comes to the rescue again!

Another feature I really like about my road atlas is the map of the entire United States. It shows the major freeways. This national map also has a listing of the national parks and monuments in a legend. How easy and time saving.

Whenever I need to know the area codes of any state, I can flip to the back of my road atlas. There is a map of the United States, including city names. Each state has the corresponding area code in it. There are even area codes of the lower portion of Canada included on this map. This feature of my road atlas is simply great!

I always find the section on Road Conditions to be so helpful. Each state is listed along with the contact number, usually toll free, that one can call to see what is ahead in their travels. This feature has saved me much aggravation and grief.
Yet another feature of my road atlas is the weather section. Here, I can see what the average high and low temperatures are since they are broken down per state. There even is a listing of the major cities in each state. This is another reason I love my road atlas.

One of the coolest things my road atlas has is another nationwide map (of the U.S.A.). Only on this one, there is a mileage chart. Mileage is listed between cities. To ease in reading this map, there are lines connecting various cities. The mileage is written on the line. The estimated driving time is also included. Whew! I do not use this section of my road atlas that much. It is helpful, though. I review it every now and then.

The main drawback to my Rand McNally Road Atlas is its size. It is large. It can fit under my car seat. It also fits in my trunk. It cannot fit in my glove compartment. When I am traveling, I keep my road atlas out of view for safety purposes.

All and all, my road atlas serves many purposes for me. It is very economical, user friendly, and an excellent reference source. I love my road atlas!
