Live Music Concert Venues for Blues and Country in Fort Worth, TX
A few years ago the Fort Worth music scene suffered a critical blow with the closing of the beloved Caravan of Dreams, whose past billings included big names like Janis Joplin, CCR, and the rest of your favorite classic and modern rock stars. In those uncertain times I was left to wonder if we were facing the Day The Music Died! Boy did I underestimated the power of music!
The North Texas music scene has since grown a reputation that rivals Austin’s 6th Street. Dallas, home of the famous Honky Tonk from John Travolta’s Urban Cowboy, has become a Rock-n-Roll hotspot that features a wide variety of styles and venues. Ft. Worth, known to Texans as Cowtown, still boasts its Country & Western Rodeo venues, but has also risen to meet the demands of music lovers across the board by offering an increase in shows at Bass Hall, and initializing an aggressive revival of some of the older Rock and Blues venues. Today, Fort Worth is proud to have the third largest cultural district in the country!
Billy Bob’s
Fort Worth, TX 76118
(817) 589-1711
The largest Honky-Tonk in the World, at least that’s what they say! Billy Bob’s is also famous for their indoor rodeo where you can watch live bull riding every weekend. The enormous dance floor is said to accommodate as many as 6000 guests. While dancing the night away, one of the thirty-two bars in the club are sure to keep your whistle wet! Another weekly treat is the appearance of famed Country & Western stars like Willie Nelson, Robert Earl Keen, Lorrie Morgan, and many more. Cover charges can be steep (over $30) on nights when a special guest is appearing, but for the Country and Western fan, it is definitely worth it.
The Bass Performance Hall
Fort Worth, TX 76102
(817) 212-4200
Those of you who shy away from cowboy boots and line dancing may feel more at home at the Nancy Lee and Perry R Bass Performance Hall. The face of Bass Hall, adorned with enormous bugling angels, is perhaps the most memorable vision in downtown Fort Worth. Home to the Forth Worth Symphony Orchestra, the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, and many other prestigious organizations, Bass Hall is sure to provide you with a first-class night out.
J & J Texas Roadhouse and Blues Bar
937 Woodward St., Fort Worth, TX 76107
(817) 870-2337
My all-time favorite! I highly recommend this venue to any and all blues lovers. The atmosphere is exactly what you would expect from an old juke-joint style roadhouse! This is a great place for first dates, group dates, anniversaries, or just a fun night out with your buddies. J & J is known for hosting both established and up-and-coming blues artists. For some great music, fantastic atmosphere, and a guaranteed good time, you can’t go wrong with J & J Blues Bar! By the way, they have great prices on beer by the pitcher!
I hope to see you next time I’m out on the town, Cowtown that is!
