Loctite Sumo Glue Product Review

I needed to repair a drawer that I had already glued once. The last fix, using wood glue, only lasted a few months. I wanted to fix it once and for all, guaranteed. Loctite Sumo Glue is a reactive polyurethane adhesive. It’s a tough glue that works on a variety of materials including wood, ceramic, aluminum, stone, metal, brick, and iron. It’s waterproof. It expands as it dries. That’s why you need to clamp items you’ve fixed with Loctite Sumo Glue. You can sand, paint and stain this product, as well as use it inside and outside.

According to its package, Loctite Sumo Glue is stronger than similar products. The clamp time is 3X shorter too, and it doesn’t foam as much.

Warnings About Use

The directions for Loctite Sumo Glue tell you to wear gloves while you’re using it. It’s quite difficult to remove this adhesive from your hands and skin. It’s also recommended that you protect your work area.

The directions also warn against breathing the vapors. And, just like with other chemicals, Loctite Sumo Glue should be kept out of the reach of children.

Test Results

I used Loctite Sumo Glue to fix my broken drawer. According to the directions, if you’re gluing two non-porous surfaces, or, if the air is dry, you need to dampen one of the surfaces. Since I was gluing wood, and I didn’t think the air was dry, I skipped wetting a surface.

You must push the two surfaces you’re gluing together within 5 minutes of applying the Loctite Sumo Glue. If you don’t get it right the first time, you can move the pieces within 10 minutes. Clamp the pieces together, then allow the glue to cure 24 hours.

I waited 24 hours to check the drawer I had glued. It seemed stronger than ever. I don’t believe I’ll ever need to glue it again. Since Loctite Sumo Glue expands as it dries, it fills in any cracks or fissures. Because of its expansion, you need to use it sparingly. I wasn’t sure if I had used enough Loctite Sumo Glue because I used very little compared to how much wood glue I had previously applied. But, once it dried and increased in size, I saw that I had used plenty.

I highly recommend Loctite Sumo Glue. It’s easy to use, inexpensive, and it’s available at many retailers. I’m going to use it around the house anytime I need a super-strong bond.
