Lollapalooza 2006 Artists: Death Cab for Cutie

The group is originally from Bellingham, Washington. It began when Ben Gibbard, who was a player for Pinwheel, decided to record a solo album called You Can Play These Songs with Chords.

After the odd success of the album, Gibbard called in old friend Chris Walla, as well as Nicholas Hammer, and Nathan Good. Taking their name from a satirical song by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, and released an indie album Something About Airplanes in 1998.

Nathan Good left the band during the recording of the next album We Have the Facts and We’re Voting Yes. He was replaced by Michael Schorr, who appeared on Forbidden Love and The Photo Album.

Drummers changed yet again as Jason McGerr took over around the time of Transatlanticsim, the band’s next release, in 2003. The album was quite a hit, and eventually led to a record deal with Atlantic and a world tour where they gained much fans and recognition.

Plans, the follow-up, received a lot of critical praise, and even earned the group a Grammy nomination. The album had a lot of songs with darker themes, including “I Will Follow You Into The Dark”, which is a love song about death.

The band’s popularity continues to grow, and the group shows no signs of creating shallow songs for the sake of more money. They will make an appearance at Lollapalooza 2006.
