Loosing Weight and Getting in Shape with a Partner

The most important thing to have when trying to loose weight is support an encouragement, technically that’s two things but they go hand and hand and one without the other is like a car with no gas… you aint getting anywhere fast.

If you can its a good idea to try to loose weight or shape up with a buddy, the term “gym buddies” is familiar and its effective because you have someone else pushing you, challenging you, with you, you don’t want to let them down so you work harder to succeed, this is the same with dieting, if you have someone else a buddy you will get further faster, I don’t mean you will loose more weight, I simply mean you will have a better understanding and reach your goals faster because of your partner and the support and encouragement you will be getting.

Before you do any dieting or exercising you should set goals for yourself with your partner, not expectations, because expectations are not individualized as goals are. Your partner should set goals for him or her self as well. If you want to this is a great time to talk about fears, worries, excitement, whatever is going through your head in regards to this upcoming diet. Also try to set aside some time every few days or week to talk about what is helpful, what isn’t, how you feel, what’s going well what’s not and so on.

I am not going to go into detailed descriptions of why you should eat this time or don’t eat this or stay way from fat free foods… I am going to provide you with tips on how to loose weight effectively with your husband, wife, partner, parent, friend or sibling, you and he or she make up a the couple.

The first and most important thing in trying to loose weight is to exercise, if you can do nothing else together do this because exercising with your partner weather its walking, jogging, swimming, biking, kayaking, playing a sport, hiking or anything else you may do to move your body, do it together this will encourage and push you to do it for yourself and to go further on your walks or hikes.

If you can try to eat together, at least once a day, its hard eating at work in the lunch room or cafe everyone’s getting take out eating grinders, pizza, fried chicken, just know that someone else, your partner, is eating a healthy salad too and they are going to be eating dinner with you, or they ate breakfast with you and this knowing should and will help you get through that hard time at work.

Some final brief tips… If you live with your partner and you see them reaching for junk food, intervene and hand them some fruit, it is difficult to cut back, it is even more difficult to change eating habits and cut out sugars, especially if you have been eating them for years, you body craves them sometimes having someone around to give you that gentle reminder makes a hung difference.

Try not to judge each other or yourself, it will be hard if your partner looses a few pounds more then you but don’t be too hard on your self, everyone’s bodies work differently, as long as you are trying and moving your body you are doing VERY good, and you will see results, sometimes it takes different amounts of time for people… if your partner may loose 2 pounds the first week 3 the next and 1 on the third while you may loose 1 the first, 2 the second and 2 the third. It doesn’t matter, its not a competition to see who can loose the most, remember that, your goals should involve feeling better about your self and becoming more healthy through cutting back and down and changing your diet all together as well as moving more. Try and be as supportive as you can, you should get support back.

Drink as much water as you can and remind your partner to do the same, ask he or she to remind you to.

Loosing weight with someone else is beneficial because you have the extra push, the extra support and the extra memory saying drink more water, remember you don’t want to eat that and the other person that understand to talk to.
