Make Your Own Simple Home Cleaners

Commercial home cleaners are not traditionally known for their environmental friendliness. Now a days, befriending the environment has become increasingly important. An alternative to commercial cleaners is to make your own home cleaners with products found right in your house. These products are environmentally friendly and much less expensive than store bought brands. Here are 9 cleaners you can make right in the comfort of your own home.

Drain Cleaner
If you have ever looked at a bottle of drain cleaner, there are warnings and hazards printed all over the packaging. However, instead of this hazardous chemical, try pouring ½ cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by ¾ cup of white vinegar. The mixture will bubble for a while. Once the bubbling stops, rinse with scalding hot tap water.

Grease Cleaner
This is a product that is needed often in a busy kitchen. Simply, use 1 part water, 1 part lemon juice, and 2 parts white vinegar. Use the mixture to scrub pots, pans, and any other surface that needs grease eliminated.

Brighten Laundry
If you want an alternative to bleach and other detergent products, simply add a dash of lemon juice to the washing machine while it is filling up with water. The lemon juice also leaves the clothes with a nice fresh scent.

Oven Cleaner
Oven cleaner is another chemical that is fairly harsh on the eyes, skin, and lungs. Instead of this dangerous product, mix water and baking soda into a thick paste. Spread this over any grease baked on the oven. If you let it sit over night, you will be able to lightly scrub it off and rinse with water.

Deodorize Your Room
One of the best ways to leave your home smelling extra special is to dab a bit of vanilla extract on your light bulbs. Not only does this cost much less than potpourri, candles, or plug-ins, but it is also much more pleasant.

Scouring Powder
Stop using those harsh chemical scouring powders. A thick paste mixture of baking soda and water will do the same job.

Polish Silver
Silver has a tendency to tarnish. Don’t go out and buy expensive silver cleaner. Instead, use half of a raw potato that has been dipped in baking soda. This will take the tarnish right off.

Wallpaper Cleaner
Making wallpaper cleaner at home is perhaps the simplest task. Just take a stale white piece of bread and rub the paper to remove oily marks and fingerprints.

Window Cleaner
Our house tends to use window cleaner like it is going out of style. Since we use so much, I am so happy I have found a cheaper alternative to store bought cleaner. Simply mix 4 parts water to a ½ part of white vinegar.

The next time you run out of store bought house cleaner, try to make your own using safe, inexpensive products at home.
