Match Colors and Spice Up Your Wardrobe
One of the key components to style is matching. Most of us know that the clothes we wear should always match, something that our mothers taught us in kindergarten. But one way to create an impressive look is by mixing dynamic colors.
Layering is a fun way to expand your wardrobe, but at the end of the day layering is all about how you match your colors. Of course, there’s always the obvious of putting white underneath a low cut top or throwing a hot pink sweater over a light pink tank. But how about mixing pink with brown? Or brown with yellow? Believe it or not, brown is one of the most easy to match colors and almost always creates a classy yet eye catching look. Brown can also be matched with shades of light blue and mint green.
Enough about universal colors, how about some colors that seem to clash? Yellow and purple is one of those combinations. To some people these two bold and flashy colors don’t mix, at least on paper. But those of us with an astute eye for color see how well they can work together, especially when done right. Layering the purple over the yellow usually makes a better impression than the opposite. Blue is also a fun color to play with and each shade matches well with different colors. Dark blue goes well with yellow, bright blue goes well with red, and a periwinkle blue is quite striking with hot pink and deep red. Pairing a blue tank with pink shorts makes for a fun and fresh summer look.
Believe it or not, in the past women always matched their purse to their shoes. Not so much anymore, now women can have fun and match their purses to their outfits. Pink, lime green, turquoise and this seasons hot color, red, are all great shades to buy purses in. Of course, they won’t match everything, but these impressive colors work well with more outfits than some might expect. And when it comes to shoes, a few years back this phenomenon of pairing a bold colored pair came in style. Instead of being simply a fad, it seemed to break down the taboo of having your shoes not match anything you wear. The best way to do this is to pair a bold pair of shoes that compliment your shirt (such as some of the color combinations mentioned above) with a pair of jeans. If you’re a little bit less daring, start with pairing red shoes with a black dress and work your way up from there!
Mixing and matching colors is a great way to spice up your wardrobe and break out of a style rut. Don’t be afraid to experiment with layering and matching your clothes, you just might find a color combination you never thought would work together!
