Maytag and Samsung Recall 270,000 Front-Loading Washing Machines

250,000 Maytag brand and 20,000 Samsung Front Loading washers were recalled today (March 21, 2007) as fire hazards.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has joined with the two large manufacture companies to warn customers of the voluntary recall.

Consumers are prompted to stop using their front loading washing machine if it is made by either of these companies and contact Maytag or Samsung to see if their model is impacted by the current recall.

Maytag’s recall hotline number is: 1 -800- 868-5109 hours are 9 am – 9 pm M-F and the line is toll free.

Samsung’s recall hotline number is: 1-800-515-7902 hours are 9 am – 9 pm M-F and the number is also toll free.

Models affected in the recall include: Maytag and Samsung front loading washing machines with the following model numbers: (located at the bottom of the door)

Maytag washers beginning with MAH9700 or MAH8700

Samsung models include those with WF306BHW or WF316

Not all of these models are part of the recall, to clarify if yours is check the serial number as well.

Maytag recall serial numbers include: ends with GA, GC, GE, GG, GJ, GL, GN, GP, GR, GT, GV or GX for all 2005 models.

Also those ending with JA, JC, JE, JG, JJ, JL, or JN for 2006 year models are part of the recall.

Samsung models with the six-digit number 100001 through 799999 prior to
a letter at the end of the serial number are subject to the recall.

Front loading washers part of the recall were sold at major retail locations from April 2005 – August 2006 and cost around $1,200.

They were manufactured in South Korea.

If you own one of the above washing machines, stop using it immediately and contact either Maytag or Samsung for directions on what steps to take next. The manufacturer will assist you with setting up a time for a free repair service so that you are not at risk of fire when washing clothes. Do not take it back to the store you purchased it from, they will point you in the direction of the machine maker.
