Memory Foam Contour Pillow

Memory foam pillows, mattresses, and mattress pads are extremely popular, and since memory foam products first hit the market I’ve wanted to try them. I have ongoing problems with my neck and shoulders, and I thought a memory foam pillow could alleviate some of my discomfort. I recently purchased a set of two memory foam contour pillows, and the following review provides details regarding my personal experience with the memory foam pillows I purchased.

Memory foam, otherwise known as visco-elastic foam, was designed by NASA for astronauts in outer space. This special foam material was invented to reduce g-force discomfort, and it didn’t take long for memory foam to become popular with consumers.

All Memory Foam Pillows are Not the Same

Memory foam is advertised on television, on the internet, and in stores all over the world, but not all memory foam pillows are the same. In my search for memory foam pillows, I discovered there are many different sizes, weights, types, and price ranges. I chose to purchase a set of two contour memory foam pillows from Overstock.com. I chose these particular pillows because the price couldn’t be beat, and the pillows included washable terry cloth covers. The pillows I bought are three-pound pillows that are twenty-four inches long by fifteen inches wide with a depth of four and one-half inches. Considering the size, weight, and price, the pillows I chose were the best value for the money. The on-site ratings were high, and I couldn’t wait for the big brown truck to deliver my fabulous pillows.

Personal Experience With Memory Foam Contour Pillows

Memory foam is a truly amazing material. Memory foam is extremely soft and exceptionally cushiony. If you’ve never experienced memory foam, you have to give it a try. When you press the memory foam, it quickly conforms to your shape, and it surrounds your body with softness. I was certain that my new memory foam pillow would meet my expectations.

Memory foam contour pillows are rounded on both sides, hence the word “contour.” The rounded area is supposed to support the neck, and I found the larger rounded side to be the most comfortable. While lying on my back or side, the pillow was very comfortable.

The odor of the memory foam was rather strong, but I wasn’t surprised. The reviews I read warned of a strong odor, but a chemical odor is common in products of this type. After a few days the odor faded considerably, and after a couple of weeks the odor completely dissipated.

I sleep on my stomach with my head turned to one side and my pillow beneath my arms. This probably isn’t a good position since I have neck problems, but I can’t sleep in any other position. Unfortunately, the contour memory foam pillow wasn’t designed for sleeping in this position. I was determined to make this pillow work, and I tried using it for four nights. Those were four of the most miserable nights of my life. I was constantly trying to readjust my pillow and sleep in the position I was accustomed to. I finally gave up on my contour memory foam pillow, and I gave it to one of my sons. I had already given the other pillow in the set to one of my other children.

I would highly recommend a contour memory foam pillow to anyone who sleeps on their back or side, but if you sleep on your stomach as I do, more than likely you’ll experience sleepless nights. The memory foam contour pillow is a good product, but if you sleep on your stomach, a regular pillow is the most comfortable choice.
