Fly Boutique : Miami Beach

Known as the best vintage store in Miami, this bohemian shop is jam-packed with treasures, and celebrity shoppers (such as Cameron Diaz, Kate Moss and Lenny Kravitz) You can find eighties metallic clutches, furs, sexy little cocktail dresses revved up with rhinestones, even antique photographs. On Lincoln Road where stores come and go, the proprietors of Fly Boutique manage to thrive year after year among the heavyweight national chains and high-end designer wares on the block. The green-and-white-checked Geoffrey Beene suit for one, the kind of electric Saville Row redux that looks especially smart topped with a fine feathered bowler or a raffish tam. Feeling nostalgic for a Dennis Weaver suede jacket heavy on the fringe? No problem. And there’s a heap of Stetsons to go with. Whether a dandy, a mod, or a dude, name your era and design preference and the Fly Boutique is sure to have what suits you. There are loads of purses, belts, boots, and shoes, bowling shirts and two-tone guayaberas, truck-stop caps, and even a mesh shirts. The friendly and knowledgeable salespeople have a keen eye for what’s retro cool or ironically hip, and the velvety boudoir interior makes for a more pleasant shopping experience. At ten years and counting, Fly Boutique is one of the last truly original places left to shop on Lincoln Road.

C. Madeleines: North Miami Beach

Don’t lie, you know that size matters, and the best part is you don’t feel cramped inside this spacious emporium. Madeleines is home to an ever-changing smorgasbord of fashions from bygone and more recent eras. The pleasant staff will graciously assist your quest for something specific, be it a Far From Heaven-style cocktail number, a Pucci girdle, or a seriously shouldered Claude Montana dress. Many items are sold on consignment, so depending on your timing, you may strike a mother lode, the moment most every vintage shopper lives for. You can find a pair of stacked heels from the Fifties, or a gold brocade dress from the Sixties. A paisley velvet coat from the Seventies. And you’d like to complete the ensemble with some rhinestone jewelry from the early Eighties. The epitome of one stop all-decade vintage shopping. Open only a few months, the store carries antiquated housewares, appliances, and other objets d’art. The place also rents itself out as a unique venue for weddings, bar mitzvahs, quinces, and other celebrations. But the price tags are the best part: C. Madeleine’s does not, unlike other vintage shops, charge a fortune for articles that look as though they came from a thrift store. Instead you’ll shop wisely, pay fairly, and wear one-of-a-kind pieces of aged designer clothing wonderfully, knowing you’re the only one in the room who’ll be doing so.

There also are unique knickknacks, such as novelty guns and unusual light fixtures. And Senzatempo carries a wide selection of vintage watches, the first love of owners Massimo Barracca and Matthew Bain. Indeed Barracca and Bain are such authorities that auction houses sometimes call for expert advice on timepieces.
