More Halloween Activities on Long Island, New York
But here you will find some of the larger festivals and events that will be taking place during the month of October in honor of Halloween and the fall harvest months.
Some festivals of note include the 1880 Long Island Halloween, which will be held at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration. This Halloween event will take place on October 29th and 30th, from 10-4, and is meant to recreate a typical Halloween during the late 19th century. Featured Halloween activities will include the reading of ghost stories, pumpkin carving, a monster hunt, touring haunted areas of the village, and many other fun Halloween activities. The town of Stony Brook will be hosting their own Halloween Festival, situated at Main Street on the Harbor. This is Stony Brook’s 16th annual Halloween Festival, and will feature numerous hand-made scarecrows on display, pumpkin picking, trick or treating for the children at the shops in the historic village center, games and exhibitions, and a costume contest. The town of Stony Brook is a wonderful place to visit at any time of year, and a real treat during the Halloween festival, which will be held on October 31st, from 3-5pm.
At Connetquot River State Park in Oakdale, NY, children 3-5 are invited to decorate pumpkins and make other Halloween crafts, on October 14th, from 9:30 pm to 11 p.m. If interested, you can call 631-581-1072 for more information.

The Smithtown Library in Nesconset, LI will have goblins telling Halloween stories for children ages 3-5, on October 31st from 10:30-11am. The children will also be able to make a Halloween craft.
For children ages 4-8, the Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown, NY will also feature craftmaking, plus a guided spooky walk through the trails, along with ghost stories and other children’s entertainment. Hicks Nurseries in Westbury will hold their annual Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off, with prizes awarded for the largest grown pumpkin this season, along with Halloween activities such as hayrides, farm animals for the children and much more. This festival is held on October 8th at noon.
Growing more popular year after year are the Haunted Houses at Sports Plus, in Lake Grove, NY. The House of the Living Dead uses live actors to scare and frighten you, and two additional haunted houses beckon you to test your nerves.
