Mothers: A Moms Club Can Improve Your Life

Moms often find that they lose a part of themselves when they become a stay-at-home mom. It can be difficult to go without adult interaction for long periods of time and it is hard to plan activities around young children. Joining your local moms club is an option that can meet the needs of both you and your child.

1. Moms Make Friends

A moms club is a great place to form new and lasting friendships. As you meet for weekly play-dates and other outings and the kids have a chance to play together, there is also plenty of time for the moms to get acquainted with one another. Its a good time to talk about stages and development in your children and get to know one another on a more personal level as well.

While each moms club differs in what they have to offer, you can expect some of the activities to include:

· Moms Night Out
· Couples Night Out
· Game Night
· Craft Club
· Book Club
· Monthly Meetings
· Recipe Club
· Field Trips
· Weekly Playgroup
· Holiday Parties and Events

2. Kids Make Friends

Moms aren’t the only ones who bond through the moms club. It is a great way for kids to meet other kids in their age group for socialization. Of course they don’t realize that what they are doing is important for their social growth. They get together and play with other children and have a good time. Your children will enjoy everything from weekly playgroups and park play-dates to field trips to the zoo, petting farm, sprinkler-park and more.

3. Build Social Skills

Participating in a moms club gives both moms and kids the opportunity to socialize. For mom this can be like pure therapy. It is a good feeling to get out of the house on a regular basis and look forward to the adult conversation and group outings. For children the social interaction is even more important. It allows children to learn social skills like sharing, getting their feeling hurt and making up, leading and following, and learning how to behave when they are at someone else’s house or in public. The field trips also broaden the child’s horizon and open their mind to new experiences and culture.

4. Relieve Boredom

The best part about joining a local moms club is that it relieves boredom for you and the kids. You’ll be amazed by how quickly your calendar will fill up with play-dates, picnics, field trips and nights out. It will add some structured play to the day, which is important, especially for children who don’t attend a formal preschool. The club will have endless things for you to choose from that your family can participate in.

5. Field Trips

A big bonus for joining the moms club is the field trips. This is a fun thing for everyone to enjoy and they are usually open to the entire moms club, regardless of how old your children are. These experiences are great for young children to explore new surroundings and be exposed to new and different things.

Some field trips that are popular choices with moms clubs are:

· The Zoo
· The Science Center
· A Hands-on Museum
Ã?· Children’s Gardens
· Historical Museums
· Local Fairs
· The Petting Farm
· Pools and Beaches
· Camping
· Picnics

6. Network

Even if you are temporarily out of the work place, it is important to stay connected. Perhaps when your kids are in school full-time you will consider going back to work. The best way to find a job is to put the word out that you are looking and what better way than to share that information with a large connected group. Many times you can even maintain your skills or learn new ones by contributing to the group.

7. Community Service

Being a part of the moms club also provides moms with an opportunity to get involved in the community. Often moms clubs are active in community service and pride themselves on being able to give something back. This can include anything from helping a homeless shelter to raising money for a cause or participating in a local park cleanup project. Whatever service you follow through with, you will find a great sense of pride and self-worth from helping others. The bonus is that your kids get this benefit too.

8. Develop Leadership Skills

A moms club that has a mass appeal will have the need for board positions to be filled. You can either use skills you already have or develop a new skill. For example, if you have worked in finance or as a bank teller, you might consider taking on the position of treasurer for the moms club. If you have a background and education in writing, volunteering for the newsletter would be a perfect fit for you. Of course extensive background isn’t nessecary in order to obtain such a position within the club. There is a broad category of things that will need to be planned and once you find your niche you will be able to step up and volunteer for the position. It is a good way to get to know all of the other members and to sharpen your people skills. Positions may include:

· President
· Community Service Leader
· Secretary
· Treasurer
· Meeting Coordinator
· Field Trip Planner
· Newsletter Editor
· Playgroup Coordinator
· Special Event Coordinator

9. Experience Togetherness

The moms club provides opportunities for you to enjoy events with your children. It is something you can do together. The groups normally offer family nights as well. These are all good places where your child can test the limits of independent play with the option of returning to you within the group in a flash. They know you will be there to help if they have trouble adjusting to a new setting, have a hard time dealing with another child or are exposed to violent behavior.

10. Improve Your Marriage

Being a part of the moms club will give you something to talk about beyond care for the kids. It will help you to have an identity of your own and to fell more confident and fulfilled. This will only add to your relationship with your partner. You will have more to talk about and more to offer to the relationship.
