Movie Releases for Summer 2006

There are a lot of new movies coming out this summer. With all the new movies coming out which ones are a must see and which ones should wait till they come out on DVD, is the question on everyone’s minds. Listed below are some of my favorites that will be hitting the big screen this summer.

Anyone that has seen the original Poseidon, the 1972 version, will defiantly be interested in the new remake. With big names like Kurt Russell and Richard Dreyfuss it’s sure to be one of this summers blockbusters. The plot centers around a luxury ocean liner that is capsized by a colossal tidal wave leaving the survivors to fend for themselves as they make there way to the bowels of the ship and any chance of getting out.

For the young girls , like my daughter, one of the biggest movies this summer will be Just My Luck.. This is Lindsay Lohan’s new movie. The plot centers around a Manhattan socialite who just happens to be the luckiest person alive until one night at a masquerade ball she finds the unluckiest person alive. After kissing the boy she realizes they have switched luck and so begins the zany adventure to retrieve her luck. A great movie for the whole family.

In June there is another remake coming out that deserves some attention. The Omen has some big names like Mia Farrow, Liev Schreiber, Julia Stiles and is directed by John Moore. All reviews so far say it is better than the first one. For those of you who never saw the original it’s a dark satanic tale about a government official and his wife who slowly come to realize that there adopted son may be the devil himself- literally.

Now a must see for all those kiddies in your life is Pixar’s new movie Cars. A great kids movie with voices from George Carlin, Cheech Marin, Bonnie Hunt, Micheal Keaton, Paul Newman, Richard Petty, and Darrell Waltrip. This promises to be a cute animated movie for the little ones. The plot centers around Lightning McQueen a hot shot race car on his way to the big race who after being waylaid in a small town comes to realize there is more to life than fame and fortune.

In July is the most waited for sequel, at least by any woman who saw the first one, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. For all you women out there yes Johnny Depp is back as Captain Jack Sparrow. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are also back. When Captain Jack Sparrow realizes he owes a blood debt to Davy Jones he desperately searches for a way to get out of it and is not above interrupting the wedding plans of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann. This promises to be a fun action packed romance for the whole family.

The must see kids movie for July is Barnyard. With such names as Courtney Cox, Sam Elliott, Danny Glover and Andie Macdowell doing the voices it should be a great movies for the little ones in your life. The plot centers around Farmer Beady going away and the animals taking advantage of the opportunity to sing, dance and talk. There is a great message for responsibility in this one and may not be for adults but the kids will love all the zany antics in this one.

Every one has been waiting to see when the first movie about the world trade center would come out and now it’s here. In August World Trade Center will be in the movie theaters.

With Nicolas Cage and Michael Pena leading the cast and Oliver Stone directing it promises to be a movie to make us all think. The plot centers around two port authority officers trapped under the rubble of the world trade center after the September 11 attacks.

On a lighter note Hillary Duff and sister Haylie Duff have a new movie out called Material Girls. The two sisters are the heiresses to a cosmetic fortune when a scandal and ensuing investigation strips them of there wealth. A great movie for all those Hillary Duff fans in your life.

There are a lot of movies coming out this summer, these are just a few I thought were worth mentioning.
