Moving Procedures: Painting and Cleaning Your Old House
Before you paint the walls you must vacuum them. Make sure all the hair and cobwebs are off of the walls. Make sure to do closets as well. Next step is to buy painters tape (which is blue) and tape off around everything including trim, vents, light switches and appliances. Otherwise you will spend a lot of time trying to remove the paint from the trim (get the rag wet). Next step is to clean all the trim and doors with cleaning supplies. You should also clean the door handles with a disinfectant. Next I would do room by room. Start with all of the bedrooms and clean the trim. Also clean the windows and hook up blinds or clean the blinds. You also need to clean the light fixtures.
You will need to do the edging and clean along the trim. Use a vacuum and then when you are finished vacuum the entire room. When one room is finished you should shut the door and stay out of the room unless you are bringing things in. You will need to clean all the rooms in this fashion.
When the painting and cleaning is done you will need to pack everything into boxes. Buy boxes in all different sizes. You will also need to buy bubble wrap, newspaper or paper towels for packaging breakables. You will need to rent a moving truck for big objects like tvs, beds and couches. One day to rent a moving truck is around $20.00 per day plus gas. Try to pack as much stuff in the moving truck as possible. I would move everything in one room and then take it to the house and set it up in that room. It’s very hard to get everything back to the way it was when you can’t find anything.
Remember that you will have plenty of time to do things once you are in the new house. Do not overwork yourself while painting and cleaning. If you don’t have time to than you can’t do it. It’s not the end of the world, you can work around it. You can do all the landscaping work while you’re moved in. Take it easy and don’t stress yourself out because this is a fun time, not a problematic period of time. Good luck moving and remember to allow yourself enough time so that you aren’t in a hurry.
