My Review of the Antidepressant Wellbutrin

Wellbutrin is used to treat severe depression. Wellbutrin is not habit forming and a prescription is needed in order to take it. Certain chemicals that are necessary for nerve transmission in the brain are blocked when taking Wellbutrin. It takes about three to four weeks for the drug to get in your system and start working. The common side effects of Wellbutrin are excitement, insomnia, constipation, loss of appetite, dry mouth, dizziness, nausea, and / or unusual weight loss. You should avoid drinking alcohol while taking Wellbutrin, alcohol increases your chances of having seizures. Coffee and tea increase your chances of insomnia while you are taking Wellbutrin.

Don’t skip doses of Wellbutrin. Finish all your medication, even if you feel better. Wellbutrin will give you false hope. This means you will feel wonderful and like yourself again, but if you quit the medicine without being slowly taken off, you will have a relapse. The doctor will slowly take you off of Wellbutrin when he or she thinks you are doing better. They usually try people on it for six weeks and slowly take the off to see how they do.

Be sure to let your doctor know if you are on any other medicines. Some medicines like lithium, loxapine, or MAO inhibitors will increase your chances of having seizures. Don’t take Wellbutrin if you are allergic to bupropion or if you have a brain or spinal cord tumor. If you are on Wellbutrin for longer than six months, ask your doctor to run test on your kidney and liver function. Wellbutrin can also affect the results of some medical test, so be sure to mention that you are taking Wellbutrin.

I was put on Wellbutrin a little over a year ago for depression. I cried all the time and some morning I didn’t want to get out of the bed. My depression was so bad I layed around all day sleeping. I was on Wellbutrin for a little over two weeks and quit taking it. I felt much better after being on it for that short period of time, but a couple of days later my depression hit me twice as hard. That was because as I mentioned earlier, Wellbutrin will give you false feeling. I was on Wellbutrin for about six months and the doctor slowly lowered my dose and took me off after a month. I am now completely off and feel ten times better. I feel like myself again.

If you are depressed, ask your doctor about Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin has helped many people over come their depression and return to normal.
