NC Death Sentence Overturned

Raleigh NC. Levon Junior Jones has had his death sentence overturned by a Federal Judge. Mr. Jones has been on Death Row for 13 years for robbery and murder of Leamon Grady.
The sentence was overturned due to poor representation by the attorneys who worked for Jones, and due to a weak case by the prosecution.
US District Court Judge Terrence Boyle says the state has 180 days to retry, or resentence Jones or set him free. Defense Attorney Ken Rose said he hopes the state will not appeal the ruling, but would retry or release Jones. Mr. Rose says there was no physical evidence against Mr. Jones and only one witness. The witness was Mr. Jones’s girlfriend who came forward 3 years after the crime.
