NFL 2006-07 AFC South Division Prediction

The AFC South, which for some reason includes the geographically north Indianapolis Colts, won’t be too surprising this year; unless the Colts choke, but Peyton Manning is too technically sound to do that. It won’t be a matter of will the Colts win, but more likely, will the Colts lose? They nearly made it last year but then the wheels fell off. This year they will be mad. The Titans now have Vince Young. Remember how great Steve McNair was early on in his Titan career? People expect even more of Young. People expect him to be the greatest quarterback ever with the last name Young. He is the Titans future, and present. Who’s left…the Jaguars and Texans. The Jags are one of those teams, just like the Panthers, that are really good but nobody knows anything about them. In fact, the Jags could go 15-1 and still nobody would know them. Maybe there is a shield of invisibility around Jacksonville. I don’t know. As for the Texans, well they shot themselves in the foot months ago. They need some help. If only there was a way for them to get a solid running back. Here is how I pick them.

WINNER – Indianapolis Colts. Seriously, I am picking the Colts to win the division. Please don’t laugh, I mean it. I don’t care what any of the experts or analysts has to say about them. I think that they have a good little team. Their QB, some guy named Pacer or Paxton or something, is very good. He has some potential to be a star in the league one day. Then there’s the wide receiver – William Henry Harrison. Not too shabby. All kidding aside, this team is one of those teams that come along once a generation that has a legitimate chance at going undefeated. Sure, they lost The Edge, but with Manning’s arm, they could go the whole season without ever rushing the ball and still go 13-3. Tony Dungy is one of the best coaches in the game. He has nothing to prove. There are many great coaches who never won the Super Bowl. You try being him near the end of last season. Heartbreaking. Then there’s the ace up the sleeve; Adam Vinatieri. His foot is worth, at least, 3 victories. If it could get them 5, they’d be perfect. Expect two losses; one expected and one surprise. Record 14-2

SECOND – Jacksonville Jaguars. As I said above, this team is flying under the radar. Before long, America, and the rest of the NFL, will know them. You can’t be this good and go unnoticed for too long. Perhaps their record will help, even though it won’t be enough for a wild card. Record 12-4

THIRD – Tennessee Titans. Here is another example of a team that could live or die by one player. Just like the Falcons and Ravens, the Titans are depending on big things from one guy. That guy is Vince Young. He will be the starter. He will be brilliant. He will not get them into the playoffs. It won’t be his fault. His job is not to be Ben Roethlisberger. He needs to be Carson Palmer. He needs to create opportunities. In Titans-town, opportunities aren’t falling out of the sky. They need to be made. I think that he can make about 7 of them. Record 7-9

LAST – Houston Can’t Drafts. What can I say? They made their choice and now they need to see what happens. If they finish with a better record than the Saints, they will be geniuses. If not, oh the headlines. Better than last year but not by much. Record 6-10
