New Exhibit Shows History Unfolding
Photos, mementos, and costumes will make up the event which characterizes 30 years of the playhouse being in business.
The exhibit opening will be held Sept. 7th, 4-6 p.m. at the Livestock Exchange Building, 131 E. Exchange Avenue, Suite 108.
Inside the museum you can view Loll Kantor’s photography and the memories of all these years of theatre under the stars and elsewhere.
The exhibit will run through October.
Hip Pocket has a long history of helping others through the arts of literature, theatre, and music.
The theatre also promotes literacy through their Literature Comes to Life Program featured at libraries with music and puppetry. After performances the troupe works with families attending to help them bring reading to life in their homes.
The Green Fund Recycling Network, in which participants can donate used printer cartridges, enables the theatre to have funds for their outreach projects.
The theatre also has a wish list on their web site, hippocket.org, called “Dreams, Schemes, and Imaginings.”
A Giant Puppetry Workshop will be held Sept. 4-17 from 4-8 p.m. at the theatre. The class is a two-week intensive program on basic techniques and vocabulary of outdoor, large scale public spectacle. This year’s workshop is led by Erin Orr, Sophia Michahelles, and Alex Kahn. These three puppeteers will facilitate the building, rehearsal, and presentation of the theatre’s 2nd Annual Pageant.
The theatre’s first season began back in 1977. Productions such as “Tommy,” and “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” were part of the repertoire. “Peter Pan” was featured among other shows in 1978 and “A Saga of Billy the Kid” as well as other colorful productions took place in 1981. “Mind Mimes” and “Tales of the Arabian Nights” was produced in 1983 among numerous other shows. In 1987 “Our Town,” Puppetmaster,” and several other plays were brought to the stage. “Live from Fort Worth, It’s Saturday Night!” was one of many other shows that came to life on the famous arena in 1988.
Plays are presented at the theatre at 1950 Silver Creek Road.
