New Products for Home Lighting Outages

Whether due to a storm or other temporary electrical failure, when the lights go out, you may be left in the dark. If you are typically scrambling for a flashlight in total darkness, a new line of household emergency lighting products will make you much more comfortable when the lights go out. Commercial buildings are required to provide emergency lighting. These are usually bulky boxes with two or more spotlights that immediately illuminate in the event of power failure. This idea is what drives emergency household lighting-lights that illuminate automatically when they detect a loss of electrical power.

The Intermatic Three-in-One Emergency Power Failure Light is one of the least expensive options for emergency lighting. This light is compatible with any polarized indoor wall socket and features an additional outlet so you can still plug in a lamp or appliance. The light automatically turns on when the power goes out. It can also be used as a night light or rechargeable flashlight. This unit has a list price of $12.95.

With a list price of $44.82, the Datexx Sentina Emergency Smart Light is considerably more expensive. However, the unit is currently listed on Amazon.com for $20.09. This unit has a power failure light that goes on automatically when the power goes out. It can also be used as an emergency flashlight that lasts up to 8 hours. When used as a nightlight, it turns on automatically at dusk and shuts off at dawn and features a motion detector light that will shine brightly as you walk by. This feature is especially useful along stairs or dark hallways.

The latest entry in this product line-up is a new line of products by Energizer. In February, Energizer introduced a line of seven products, each of which uses a unique light stick that is battery operated and can stay on when normal electricity fails. The lights can function in their specific product but are also detachable and can serve as an area light and/or flashlight when the power goes out.

The line features products used in everyday lighting such as a desk light, a tabletop nightlight, and a wall plate nightlight. Cordless options include a motion light and a wall sconce. Other emergency lighting options include the twin light center which contains two detachable lights and a permanent nightlight on the base, and the all-in-one light center which features four detachable area lights with one charging base. This line retails for $24.99 to $69.99.

In the past year, nearly every part of the country has been affected by natural disaster or severe weather which often resulted in power failure. With these emergency lighting products, there is no need for you to be left in the dark.
