Newborn Sock Cap Crochet Pattern
All example photos use Caron Simply Soft No Dye Lot yarn. This pattern is sized to fit a typical newborn, but it can be made smaller by using a G hook or baby weight yarn (Caron yarn is considered medium-weight). To make it larger, try using thicker yarn like worsted weight or a chunky yarn.
Sock Cap Crochet Pattern
Materials: Hook Size H, Caron yarn in 2 colors – 2 oz. Main Color (MC) and less than 1 oz. Contrast Color (CC), 1/8 inch ribbon, tapestry needle
With MC, chain 50, join with slip stitch to form a ring.
Round 1: Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch around. Join with slip stitch to first stitch.
Round 2: Chain 4, *skip next stitch, double crochet in next stitch, chain 1* around, ending with slip stitch to beginning chain 3.
Round 3: Chain 3, half-double crochet in each stitch around. Join with slip stitch to beginning chain 3.
Round 4: Chain 3, 2 half-double crochet in the first stitch. half-double crochet in each remaining stitch around. Join with slip stitch to top of beginning chain 3.
Rounds 5-13: Chain 3, half-double crochet in each stitch around. Join with slip stitch to top beginning chain 3. At end of round 13, finish off.
Round 14: Join CC with slip stitch to top of hat. Slip stitch around. Finish off.
Round 15: Join CC with slip stitch to bottom of hat. Chain 3, half-double crochet in each stitch around.
Rounds 16-17: Half-double crochet in each half-double crochet around. Finish off. Fold up cuff.
Thread the tapestry needle with ribbon and weave through the double-crochet spaces at the top of cap. Cinch tightly and tie in a bow to finish off.
