No Matter the Season, Pittsfield MA Has a Cure for the Blues
In the neighboring town of North Adams, there is an attraction called Mass MoCA. It is the largest museum of contemporary art in the world. It features displays that some may call a little wierd, like trees hanging upside down.
In Williamstown, another neighboring village, there is William College, voted the number one liberal arts college in the United States – even above the Ivy Leagues. The tuition is in the high 30’s per year. They perform summer stock at Williams Theater. Guests such as Meryl Streep, Paul Newman, Ann Archer , and many other stars come to perform on stage. Williamstown was also the home of the late Chris Reeve. One of the greatest treats in Williamstown is the Clark Art Museum. The themes and dispalys are constantly changing.
In another neighboring town, Stockbridge, there is the Norman Rockwell Museum. In Pittsfield you can visit the home of Herman Melville, who wrote “Moby Dick.” The Berkshire Museum is in Pittsfield as well. In the fall, thousands come for fall foliage. In the winter Pittsfield is surrounded by famous ski lodges such as Brodie Mountain, Canterbury Farm, Catamount Ski, and just a short way off, for the best and most courageous of all skiers, there is Killington in Vermont.
There are restaurants of every description. The Country Buffet Restaurant is a great place for people with big appetites who don’t mind serving themselves, and for reasonably priced good food, there’s always the Dakota. There are many Chinese and Italian restaurants as well. For things like pizza delivered to your door, there are many to choose from, as well as the chains.
For luxury lodging ,there’s the Crown Plaza, and for everyone else there’s a wide selection of hotels and motels. The Wagon Wheel and The Rodeway Inn are nice. Once here, travelers may want to jump on the Mass Pike, make the 90 minute drive, and see where America began. A day spent touring the USS Constitution, which is still commissioned, is a Kodak moment. Go to the Old North Church where Paul Revere once said, “One if by land, two if by sea.” There is much to see. Come say hell’o sometime, you won’t be disappointed.
