O Light Divine!

O light divine, maker of heaven and earth,
Tell me the truth behind thy creations:
Was it not done as the poet does? –
Taking substances from space and time
And fashioning them into the sublime.
O light divine,
Give my speech power that I may render
With justification the glory of thy being,
And shine my own light on the creation process.
O light divine, may thy power and mine be akin
That I may render also something of a universal
Chord and keep from the sin of idle chatter. . . .
I know nothing of the form and grace of creation,
But take only what I can grasp and shape into
A work that ultimately comes from Thee. O light
Divine, fall upon me as I pray for success in
My endeavor to create from what thou hadst given me,
Something good for posterity that will continue on.
