Ohio Marriage License Laws
You’ll need to apply for your marriage license at least one month before your wedding ceremony. You don’t want to apply for your marriage license too early. In some states, the licenses do expire, if you don’t get married within a few months.
When you apply for your license, you’ll need a proof of identification and age, you’ll also need to apply for the certificate together, and you will need to provide any information about previous marriages, and you will pay a nominal fee. You will also need to have a witness when you sign the application.
On your wedding day, you’ll give the person performing the ceremony your marriage license, then after the ceremony; he or she will sign it and send it to the proper government agency for validation.
If you are 18 to 21 years of age, you will need to show your birth certificate. People aged 16-17 must have consent to marry from parents or legal guardians. Additionally, the Judge may require the minors to state that they have received marriage counseling that is satisfactory to the court.
In Ohio you do not need to take blood tests. Any ordained or licensed minister of any religious society or congregation within this state may perform marriages.
After you get your marriage license it is only valid for 60 days. After 60 days have passed if you haven’t gotten married, but if you still plan to you must obtain another license. The license can only be used within the State of Ohio.
