Old Dutch Cleanser Versus Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
Cleaning is always a chore, but that chore is made even worse if you use products that require you to really put your back into it. Some cleaning products claim that you can easily wipe away that horrible soap scum, but this isn’t always true. Two products that I have used are Old Dutch Cleanser and the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Both require scrubbing, but only ones requires back breaking scrubbing, even though it claims to easily remove dirt and grime.
Old Dutch Cleanser has been around since 1905 and is a natural cleanser. Old Dutch originally came from mines in
California
. Today you can still buy Old Dutch Cleanser for 3 for $1 at your local dollar store. I was skeptical at first, thinking that it couldn’t possibly work because it was so cheap in price, but my boyfriend (who had been a bachelor before I came along) swore by it. After watching him use Old Dutch Cleanser to easily clean our bath tub, I was hooked. There is very little scrubbing involved when you use Old Dutch Cleanser. The product is naturally abrasive allowing you to use wash cloth instead of an overly abrasive sponge that could scratch the surface of your bath tub and shower. Old Dutch Cleanser can be used all over the house. We’ve used it to clean the bath tub, shower, bathroom sink, and kitchen sink all of which, Old Dutch Cleanser cleaned wonderfully. The only downside of Old Dutch Cleanser is the way it makes your skin feel, after using it. I highly suggest using gloves when you use Old Dutch Cleanser to avoid making your hands feel chalky afterwards. But what if you hardly had to scrub at all? What if you could simply wipe away dirt and grime?
This is what suckered me into buying the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, which cost around $2.50 for a package of two. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser shows commercials where people are easily wiping away marks from their floors, scum from bath tubs, grime from outdoor furniture, dirt of tire rims, and much, much more. I saw the commercial and thought, “Wow, I can clean the bath tub with no trouble at all and without getting cleaner all over me.” I almost couldn’t wait to clean the bath tub once I had bought the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I thought this would be a product that would make it easier for me to clean the bath tub, because I have back problems, but I was wrong. It took probably an hour to clean the bath tub and that didn’t include the shower walls. This was an hour of back breaking labor. The bath tub did look amazing afterwards, but I had to scrub with all my might. Long before I was halfway done cleaning the bath tub, the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser started falling apart. I ended up having to use the second one in the package to finish up the bath tub. This was quite possibly the worst cleaning experience I have ever had. I haven’t tried using the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on anything else. It may work perfectly on other items, but you will not find yourself easily wiping out the bath tub as the commercial shows.
When it comes to Old Dutch Cleanser and the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser there’s no competition whatsoever. Old Dutch Cleanser doesn’t even need commercials anymore; people just know it’s a great product, because several generations of their family have been using it for over 100 years. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, on the other hand, must sucker people in by using commercials that show people easily cleaning away dirt and grime. Don’t be one of those people who gets suckered into buying the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, you’ll just be disappointed, plus covered in sweat from all the scrubbing you’ll have to do. Save your money and buy the Old Dutch Cleanser.
