Online Resources for Nonprofit Grants
www.grants.gov sign up here to receive notices at the moment your favorite federal agencies release grant announcements. Make sure that the agencies you are interested in are participating though! Most are-but a handful are still not listed there.
www.channing-bete.com/funding/index.php sponsors a list of government, foundation, and corporate giving, generally oriented toward children, family, and education, that is emailed approximately once per month. The service is free.
www.guidestar.org is the place to see what many funders see when they research your organization. Nonprofits’ annual reports to their respective attorneys general are posted here, generally about two years in arrears. If your house does not appear to be in order according to Guidestar, but it is in reality, be sure to reference this in your proposal if possible. The basic search function is free.
www.fdncenter.org is probably the most comprehensive grant reference on the web, listing a wide array of corporate and foundation resources. Although the site will try to entice you to sign up for a costly subscription to see more detailed information, it can be a valuable free link to resources that you can research independently. This kind of research is advisable anyway prior to any correspondence with a funder.
www.cfda.gov is a comprehensive resource listing ALL available federal grants, the online version of the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. This website has a search function to narrow down thousands of entries. If your federal agency of interest participates in grants.gov, you may find the latter to be a more convenient resource.
www.GrantsAlert.com offers information on education-related grants.
