Oscar Winner Partners with Organizations to Help Katrina Victims
The official online disaster relief auction offers everything from a customized 2005 Bentley to premieres and after-party tickets of Hollywood.
Charity Folks (charityfolks.com) has waived all selling fees in this auction to aid The American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Charity Folks is the leading online auction venue. In April Charity Folks held an online auction to benefit children in Harlem and in February the organization did the same to help the Wildlife Conservation Society. Advance inquiries about the latter auction came from a dozen countries and from all walks of life.
According to liveandworkwell.com, disasters such as Hurricane Katrina can be particularly traumatic to children. The Volunteer Center of North Texas says that the single most important thing that lets people cope with a disaster is helping or getting help from other people and volunteers are an important part of any disaster plan. The agency reported on Sept. 6th that because immediate volunteer needs were not fully known at the time they had been asked to collect information on behalf of the agencies coordinating disaster relief efforts. The Salvation Army at 9216 Harry Hines Boulevard in Dallas has asked for monetary donations, industrial-sized cans of vegetables, diapers, hand sanitizers, personal toiletries, flashlights, socks, insect repellant, baby formula, work gloves, and plastic gloves to help hurricane victims.
