Pascarella Becomes Danbury Superintendent

OLD SAYBROOK – After 13 years of being Superintendent of Old Saybrook Schools, Dr. Sal V. Pascarella, has resigned and will become the new Superintendent of Danbury Public Schools.

Pascarella served as a superintendent to a small town with a population of 10,000 people and an enrollment of about 1,564 students.

Taking a step toward serving a larger community, Pascarella will be serving a student population of 10,535 in the large city of Danbury in southwestern Connecticut with a total population of 77,353.

The Old Saybrook Board of Education started a search committee to look for its new superintendent and will be meeting again on August 8.

It is uncertain what Dr. Pascarella’s official last day will be in Old Saybrook.

Dr. William Glass, the Associate Superintendent of Schools in Danbury, said, “We’re delighted Dr. Pascarella joins us. He brings strong instructional leadership skills, problem solving skills, collaborative and consensus building approach to decision making and a great sense of humor.”

Glass said Pascarella’s many years of effective leadership in Old Saybrook has served students and families in that community and anticipates him doing the same in Danbury.

According to the Danbury Public Schools website, Dr. Pascarella stated, “I am pleased to be selected as your new Superintendent of Schools. The Mission that has been the district’s motto, “to develop in all children the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values which will enable them to live a productive and self-fulfilling life and engage in responsible citizenship in an ever-changing global society will continue to be my commitment to our Danbury Public Schools.”

Danbury has fourteen elementary schools serving students kindergarten through grade five and two middle schools unlike Old Saybrook which has only one elementary school and one middle school.
