Peace and Quiet in Your Own Apartment – How to Legally Get It!

If you are among the millions of people who live in an apartment you probably like to come home to the peace and quiet of your own apartment. In some cases however you may find that the neighbors around you are rude inconsiderate, and just plain nasty people. Many have often stated that it is the children of the neighbors who are disrespectful and just plain loud. It can really be annoying when they are constantly right in front of your apartment door making lots of noise when all you want to do is relax from a busy day at work. Well just about all apartment complexes will include in your lease that you have the right to the quiet enjoyment of your premises.

This means that the landlord will do everything that they can in order to make sure that you are not disturbed while inside your apartment. In some cases they will set time limits on which noise must be stopped. In some cases it would be ten o’clock at night in other areas it may even be earlier. If you find that your rights to peaceful and quiet enjoyment of your apartment is being violated then you should first try speaking to the individuals in a civil matter and see if it is at all possible for them to keep them noise down. IF they find that they are unable to keep the noise down and are just rude and nasty when you try to talk to them then you will need to take the next step. This will mean that every time you are disturbed in your apartment you should contact the police. This way you can file a report and have it documented that you are being disturbed. In some cases this could lead to you being threatened by your neighbor. Usually they become very upset that you have called the cops on them , that they suddenly want to get revenge against you. If you are then threatened by the individual or anyone one then you should call the police and pursue getting a restraining order. If you feel that your life is in danger because of this and you are even getting to the point where you are afraid to leave your home, than this is exactly what you should do. If possible you should try to tape record the things that they are saying to you this way you can prove that you are being threatened. In most cases if you don’t have proof than you have no way of proving than they are threatening, especially since they will probably end up denying it.

Whatever you do not back down and allow them to walk all over you. While you don’t want to have any problems with your neighbors you have a right to be able to live safely and in peace and quiet within your own apartment.
