Personalize Your Work Space: Become More Productive

Have you ever wondered why there are people who seem to enjoy their work a lot more than you do? There are people who seem to control stress a lot better than others do. But it really isn’t that difficult to control your stress level at work either. If you look at the workspace of a person who seems to be in more control than you are, chances are you will see a more comfortable looking space than yours. Get to work and transform you workplace into something you can virtually sleep in (not to be taken literally).

No more clutter

The first few things you will want to get rid of are all the items that you do not use at work. Do you have books that you don’t read? Are their office supplies that you will not be using in the next five days? Then keep them in drawers or boxes that will fit neatly underneath your desk. You can always take them out when you do need them some day. Doing this, you will probably free up about 50% of space on your table.

Adopt a plant

Although most offices will not allow this due to health risks (depending on the type of plant), if you can have one then get one. A small potted plant or fern will do. Even a cactus will change the way you look at your desk. Make sure that the plant is taken care of and this should also help you develop a sense of care for your work as well. Also, nobody likes a dead plant. This is tantamount to predicting your career in the next few weeks. By taking a piece of the outdoors straight into your office, you can help yourself relax. If the plant bears sweet smelling flowers, then this is even better for you and your officemates nearby.

Nice seat

You can do either one of two things to make sure you have a decent chair at your desk: request one from your office supplies department or buy one over the weekend. Whatever the case is, it is important that you have a chair that can maintain your posture at its best. Make sure to get a chair with an upright back but is soft and something you can sink back into while you are thinking to yourself. This will stimulate your thinking process and help your body to relax. In this condition, you will be able to tackle any assignment that is thrown in your direction.

Personalize and accessorize

Don’t make your office space look like an assembly factory. Your space wasn’t built for robots, it was built for you. And as a human being, you should add a few elements that are personal to you. Bring pictures of loved ones and display them at angles that you can catch so you can ponder on the blessings that you have outside of the office life. Also, try to make your desk reflect what it is that interests you. Are you into collectibles? Then bring some of them to the office. These things will entice you to work harder so that you can improve that part of your life as well.

Still confused about how to control stress at the office? Above all else that has been mentioned here, it is most important that you and your office space are a team. You work on the chair and it helps to soothe and relax you. Use things that will compliment your hard days work.
